The Doctors

Dr. MJ Wegmann and Dr. Kallie Wegmann utilizes a contemporary, evidence based chiropractic technique called CBP; Chiropractic Bio-Physics. CBP is the most published technique within the Index Medicus in the history of chiropractic. CBP has more published papers in peer-reviewed journals than all other techniques combined.

Dr. Wegmann is also a Certified Maximized Living Doctor, a group of doctors dedicated to reversing the health crisis the US finds itself in. This group of doctors recognize health is a combination of nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle. Dr. Wegmann is also a Doctor of Chiropractic, graduating on the Dean’s List from the world’s most prestigious chiropractic school; Palmer College of Chiropractic.

Dr. Wegmann is the co-founder and editor of TheNewWellness.com. The New Wellness was formed to help people understand the shift in thinking that most occur for our healthcare crisis to change. Poor health is not a single, cataclysmic event. We do not become unhealthy, overweight or sick overnight. Poor health is the inevitable result of an accumulation of poor thinking and poor choices.

Dr. Mike is also a blogger for the Living section of the Huffington Post.

Discover Chiropractic MBS, P.C. is a “State of the Art” clinic, from flat-panel TV’s running our “Getting Healthy” slide show to surface sEMG, and thermal imaging. Discover Chiropractic has the latest in chiropractic technology. sEMG is a device which measures the amount of electrical activity in the muscles (the muscles of the back & neck that support the spine). These muscles brace or tense-up in response to spinal misalignments known as (Vertebral Subluxations) and therefore send increased electrical signals. If there is any interference with communication between the brain to the rest of the body through the spine, the sEMG will pick this up.

When we combine the computer-aided technology with the traditional x-rays and exam, we are able to pinpoint where in the spine the nerve roots are being irritated, and what areas of muscle are functioning incorrectly as a result of the nerve interference. A vertebral subluxation leads to improper electrical impulses which can lead to poor health. The instrument can print out a colorized bar graph of the patients back along with a narrative report explaining the findings of the report. Each patient will receive sEMG and will also be monitored from visit to visit so the effectiveness of the adjustment can be monitored.

Corrective Chiropractic Care Not all chiropractic care is the same. While most chiropractors focus merely on the elimination of pain and symptoms, we pride ourselves on finding the cause of your ailment, correcting it, restoring you back to optimum health. The 5 main areas we specialized in are:

1. Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia affects at least 6 million women in the US each year, and many patients aren’t getting answers anywhere else. We work with these patients on nutritional needs and lifestyle advice as well. We offer supplements and products to help you live pain free.

2. Herniated/ Degenerative Discs. These patients have usually tried multiple medical routes with little to no help. Many of them are facing surgery and would love to find a more natural solution. That is where we come in. Our success with these patients is incredible. Most patients present with structural changes thus accelerating the degenerative process. Pain relief is often swift.

3. Arthritis. Osteoarthritis alone affects nearly 21 million people, accounts for nearly a quarter of primary care visits, and half of all NSAID use in the U.S. The largest affected group is the baby boomers. We combat the progression of arthritis with specific care tailored to increasing range of motion and increasing the ability to function without pain.

4. Neuropathies (Nerve Pain). Sciatica, numbness, tingling, radiculopathies, and other nevre problems fall into this group. This is a very motivated patient because the pain is very severe often interfering with multiple activities of daily living, such as sleep, walking, and sitting. These patients respond very quickly, and have wonderful results under our care.

Sciatica refers to a group of symptoms that are generally caused by a problem in the lower back known as a radiculopathy (when a never root that connects to the sciatic nerve is irritated or compressed). Common lower back problems and spinal conditions that can cause sciatica include:

Degenerative disc disease: Even though disc degeneration is a natural process that occurs with aging, one or more degenerated discs have the possibility to irritate a nerve root and cause sciatica. Degenerative disc disease is diagnosed after a weakened disc results in excessive micro-motion at the corresponding vertebral level and inflammatory proteins, located inside the disc, become exposed which irritates the area (and also the nerve roots).

Lumber spinal stenosis: Commonly causes sciatica due to a narrowing of the spinal canal. This is more common in adults over the age of 60, and generally results from one or more of the following: overgrowth of soft tissue, enlarged facet joints, or a bulging disc placing pressure on the nerve roots as they exit the spine.

Lumbar herniated disc: Occurs when the soft inner core of the disc extrudes through the fibrous outer core of the disc. This irritates the contiguous nerve root as it exits the spine. Generally, it is the thought that an injury or sudden twisting motion can lead to an eventual disc herniation and sciatica. Most discs, however, weaken due to repetitive stress and the end result is a herniation. Herniated discs are sometimes referred to as a slipped disc, bulging disc, ruptured disc, protruding disc, or a pinched nerve. Sciatica is the most common symptom of a lumbar herniated disc.

Isthmic spondylolisthesis: When a small stress fracture allows one vertebral body to slip forward on another vertebral body. With a combination of disc space collapse, the fracture, and the vertebral body slipping forward, the nerve can get pinched as it exits the spine and cause sciatica.

Piriformis syndrome: It is also possible for the sciatic nerve to be irritated as it runs under the piriformis muscle in the rear. If this muscle pinches or irritates a nerve root that comprises the sciatic nerve, sciatica type pain can occur. Although this isn’t a true radiculopathy, the leg pain can feel the same as sciatica caused by a nerve irritation.

Sacroiliac joint dysfunction: If the sacroiliac joint at the bottom of the spine is irritated, it can also irritate the L5 nerve, which lies on top of it, and cause sciatica-type pain. This is also not a true radiculopathy, but the leg pain can feel like sciatica.

5. Headaches and Migraines. Approximately 22 million women are affected by migraines alone in the United States. Because these patients have suffered for many years (some since childhood), they are looking for long term relief and a life without drugs. Headaches are not normal, and are not caused by a lack of aspirin in the blood stream. Headaches are mainly triggered by two possibilities, and Dr. Wegmann screens for both issues.

Wellness Chiropractic Care Once your health and wellness have been restored to your God-given potential, Wellness Chiropractic Care is all about maintaining the integrity of your nervous system and teaching you how to maintain total wellness throughout your entire life.

Pediatric Chiropractic Care Not all chiropractors see infants and children. While most chiropractors focus merely on the adult population, we pride ourselves in complete family care. Chiropractic check-ups and adjustments should begin at birth and continue throughout life to ensure maximum health, vitality, and total wellness.

Pre-Natal Chiropractic Care Not all chiropractors adjust pregnant women. It is well known now in both the medical and chiropractic communities that chiropractic care is extremely effective for not only the pregnant mother, but also the baby she is carrying in the womb. Chiropractic care when started in “the womb” and continued throughout “from womb to tomb” will ensure that all people involved are as healthy as possible.

Lifestyle Evaluations It is now well known in nearly every area of health care that the only person responsible for your health is YOU! Because of this fact, we employ lifestyle evaluations and make recommendations for changes in the necessary areas of your life. These include balancing your stress and peace, nutrition, supplements, water intake, and exercise to name a few.

Seminars and Advanced Workshops
With our practice’s cornerstone being patient education, our seminars and advanced workshops bring the latest information to you about health and wellness on a variety of topics. This on-going education insures that you can make the best possible decisions for you and your family’s health and well-being. These seminars are many times held right on sight after patient hours in our office and at other times throughout the community at churches and other clubs and organizations.
